Ventilated cribs and warehouses require structured maintenance to keep stored crops safe:

  • Ventilated Cribs: Used for drying and temporarily storing unthreshed corn on the cob. Clear away nearby trees to prevent rodents from jumping onto the roof. Keep the surrounding area clean, replace worn wire mesh or rodent guards promptly, and paint metal parts with rust protection when needed.
  • Bulk Warehouses: Built to store bagged dried grains, roots, and dried fruits, these facilities should have their short side facing east-west to minimize heat absorption from the sun. Paint the walls white to spot insects and heat damage easily. Keep doors rodent-proof, patch wall cracks and roof leaks immediately, and clear out old, worn storage bags regularly.
