Large-scale grain storage operations use two main types of silos, each with distinct operational requirements:

  • Conventional Metal Silos: These flat-bottomed, galvanized steel cylinders are built for long-term bulk grain storage. However, they require chemical pesticides and fumigants to control pests. This introduces safety risks, including chemical exposure for workers and dangerous carbon dioxide buildup inside the silo.
  • Improved Inert Atmosphere Silos (IIAS): This advanced system provides chemical-free pest control by modifying the storage atmosphere. Once dry grain is loaded, the air inside is replaced with compressed Nitrogen gas. This completely displaces oxygen, suffocating pests and stopping mold growth naturally without any synthetic chemicals.
