Solar drying technologies provide a clean, enclosed environment for drying high-moisture perishable crops. These systems protect drying products from dust, rain, insects, and animal contamination. Standard setups include compact solar trays, mobile solar tent dryers (MSTD), stationary solar tent dryers (STD), and large parabolic-shaped solar dryers (PSSD).
They share two main design features:
Transparent Covering: Top sheets transmit solar energy directly into the drying chamber, creating internal temperatures well above the outside air.
Insulated Black Floor: A dark floor surface absorbs solar heat and is insulated from the ground to prevent heat loss through conduction.
